I can’t help but feel a mix of cautious optimism and excitement about our chances of making it back to the Premier League this season. Sitting fourth in the Championship with 55 points after 29 games, we’re only four points shy of the automatic promotion spots. It’s close, and there’s still plenty to play for.

Our recent performances give plenty of reasons to believe. That 1-0 win over Portsmouth was a proper show of grit—Wilson Isidor grabbed an early goal, and the lads dug in to hold onto the three points. Moments like that make you think this team has the resilience to go all the way.
That said, not everything’s been perfect. The 2-2 draw against Plymouth Argyle stung, especially after conceding a late equalizer. It was a missed opportunity to put real pressure on the top two, and it’s a reminder that consistency will be the key if we’re to push for promotion.
Now, the Tees-Wear derby against Middlesbrough looms large. It’s a massive fixture—one that could be a real statement of intent if we can get a result. A win there would give the lads a huge confidence boost and send a message to the rest of the league.
There’s also a lot to be excited about off the pitch. Signing Enzo Le Fée from Roma is a massive statement. He’s coming in with a loan deal that could become permanent if we go up, and it feels like the club’s backing the manager to build something special. With his experience under Régis Le Bris at Lorient, he’s got every chance to settle quickly and make a difference.
We’re in the thick of it now, and the path to promotion won’t be easy. But when has it ever been for Sunderland? If we can keep the momentum going and make the most of these big moments, who knows where we’ll end up?
What do you think?
